The Golden Lotus

My wannabe submission for the Foxlores Portfolio.


I hope you like it, I put a lot of effort and enthusiasm in this picture. I first drew it in A4 size, and then printed it in A3 (double size of a normal piece of paper) to color it. The background was colored using airbrush, which is still a very hard technique in my oppinion, but gives great results. It is a shame you cannot see the golden paint on the flowers, clothing and the Aurora Borealis behind, it is quite more beautiful in the original.
The character was colored with my usual colores and watercolor pencils. And then airbrush for the shining effect. The lotus flowers in the bottom were done with a fine brush and gold paint.


I have a story for this picture... but I still have to translate and I can´t wait anymore to submit the picture. The kitsune is half a fennec fox, half a red fox who wanted to be an elegant kitsune. She could not because she was a mix, and not a pure fox, and so she asked for the aid of a chameleon spirit to disguise her heritage. Disguised, she entered the Temple of the Moon, and the Moon itself fell in love with the strange beauty of the little vixen; turning she into a kitsune to have her serving in her Temple. Once she become a nine tail kitsune, the half-fennec showed her true form. The other foxes on the court were indignated, but the Moon liked her even more, seeing her red-golden shiny and soft fur, and her elegant and tiny body. Thus, she became the favourite, the Golden Lotus, teaching the other foxes and vixens they should not forget their innate cunning and stop relying in their elegance and beauty to keep their places in the Temple.
